End of Quarter and Eye Model

Jared ~Congrats on another 4.0 and the completion of your 1st year of optometry school!!!!!!!!!! I am so proud of you! You worked hard and did well! Love you!

With his 1st year behind him, Jared has the summer off of school. This summer will be his only break. Next year, and every year after, he will have school during the summer months. Jared and a classmate will be working together up at the school doing inventory. His job ends just in time for us to visit KC at the end of July!

I remain jobless, but will continue to search.

For his Ocular Motility class, Jared and a classmate, created a model of the eye. They were required to incorporate many components including, muscles, pulleys, etc. and had to measure the angles to scale. They were also encouraged to be creative. Knowing Jared…his funny, creative, and original side….this project was going to be good! And it was! Jared and his partner Stephanie (she puts up with him well!) created a Ninja Turtle….M“EYE”chelangelo… themed model. (They received an “A”)

A lot going on!

A lot has gone on in the last 2 days! First, my poor baby (Elsie) hurt herself :-( She and I were playing frisbee on the drive in front of our apartment last night. She started limping and I saw blood trailing behind her. Both of the back paw pads had torn. About a thumb nail sized flap of her pad was hanging off both paws. As far as I can tell, it happened when she was chasing her frisbee and sliding on the pavement. She was a good sport and allowed Jared to cut the flaps off, wash, and bandage her wounds. She seems to be doing fine. They are still raw, but she walks normally.

I got a sewing machine! I found it on craigslist and got a really great deal! I now need to find someone to show me how to use it :-)
Another earthquake hit this evening. It was a 5.0 located near Long Beach (by LAX). It lasted a while and was a subtle rolling.....I hate them! I am not a fan of being caught off guard. This quake follows three every small ones we had 3-4 weeks ago (they hit really close to home, but weren't worth mentioning). A classmate of Jared's who lives below us came up to check on me (she knew Jared was studying at the library) because she knows earthquakes FREAK ME OUT! She was surprised at how many quakes have a occurred so close together....she is a SOCAL native and hasn't experienced this before.....this was/is not comforting!

Good Food & Great Fun

This week has been full and fun! Tuesday night we went to a pot luck fiesta at a friend's house. The food was great and for some added fun they had a pinata! Keep in mind....this gathering is all optometry students.....so instead of using a blind fold for the pinata, they wear trail frames with +20 diopter lenses. Wow!

We went to the Angel's game Wednesday night (they lost) with several others from Jared's school. Friday night was the end of the year banquet for Jared's class. It was held at the Hilton in Huntington Beach. It was cool to look out of the window and be able to see the ocean!

Jared before hitting the pinata...gotta love those big blue eyes!

It's Offical...I'm Running!

For those of you who didn't know, I have been training for a half marathon. I know! I can't believe it myself! But it's true....I started training January 12th. I decided to take on this challenge with the encouragement and help from my friend Jen.

I am running in the Chicago Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon on August 2nd. I registered this week, so it's official!

My longest run to date is 6 miles. I have been averaging 10-10:30min. miles....(which I think is pretty amazing considering I haven't run since volleyball, 11 years ago).

Wish me luck with my training!

Grab and Run!

Oh Elsie! This is a new game she has started with us. While Jared crushes cans for recycling, Elsie attempts to get the cans. The video you are seeing is Elsie after many unsuccessful can grabs.....she is such an ornery dog! But we love her anyway!
